I guess from reading some of the entries here, I'm one of the This site is pretty cool, keep up the good work CHAR!!! and Gord if you are reading this, get Red and John back into your band, get a haircut, lose the 'stache, and go electric!!! I would love to see you go electric. He needs Red, and John to make himself successful, and if they are not likely to come back, than well sorry fans, he may not have another top 40 hit or another Juno. Those two musicians were the BEST he has had in his career, and when they left him, he unfortunately faded into a downhill swirl. I think his story songs, such as Edmund Fitzgerald, and Canadian Railroad Trilogy are the best in his repetoire, making him a more "educated" songwriter than anyone else in pop music today.Īs a longtime Lightfoot fan I feel that he should get back with (sorry CLEMENTine I guess you became a fan too late in his career) Red Shea and John Stockfish. Lightfoot is one of the most "irreplaceable" artists in Canadian Music. Your voice and lyrics have been my musical inspiration. All best to you Gord and thanks from the bottom of my heart for all those beautiful songs. I will be down in your area in the summer of 2001 and hope to get a chance to see you if you would like to meet an old guitar picker fan of yours. I appreciate the fact that you shared them with us. I have played many of your songs and I hope that you dont mind. I started the finger style intro to "Steel Rail Blues" and when I saw toes tapping and people kinda moving with the rythme I knew It would be ok. When the houlse lights went down and the curtain rolled back, there I was in front of a large audience and I wanted to be anywhere but there. I had to choose a song that I hoped would grab the attention of the audience as I am not much of a writer. The first time I played in public was at a coffee house back around 1970 and I was scared to death at performing in public. I learned to play the finger style for folk music and combining that with the tremendous chord arrangments just blow you away. It has a deep resonant base and warm treble sound. I bought a brand new d-18 martin like the one you are using im many pictures I have of you and also a j-200 Gibson. I play music for a living and you being the wonderful guitar picker that you are would appreciate good guitars when you see one. I got lost in it and so absorbed in your lyrics and chords oh those unmistakable chords. I loved yor music so much that I played it all the time. You are much loved and revered by your fans as you can see by the long list of entrys into this site. I also purchased every song book that was publishhed, one for each of the albums, Gord I hope that you read this.
